San Marino is a member of the “Small Countries Initiative.” WHO established the initiative in 2013, and countries with a population of less than one million people can participate. The main goal is to promote a joint political commitment to develop good health practices in the local area (cf. World Health Organization 2020).
There is no available information on current regulatory status about counselling in San Marino.

- Treatments for mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse, other addictions, and post-traumatic stress disorder
- Psychotherapy: both cognitive-behavioral models, interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic therapy, creative arts therapy, and play therapy with children
- Rehabilitation
Currently, there are some providers who deal with psychotherapy and counselling, but there is no legal regulation of the profession. Furthermore, universities do not offer training in this field and other training institutes have not been found. The field is very opaque.
